B'Day is the second studio album by American singer Beyoncé, released on September 4, 2006, by Columbia Records. Strategically timed to coincide with her 25th birthday, the album was recorded in a secret three-week burst of creative energy following her starring role in the film Dreamgirls. Driven by live instrumentation, 1970s funk influences, and high-energy R&B production, B'Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling over 541,000 copies in its first week. It went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album.
