Surfer Rosa is the debut full-length studio album by the American alternative rock band Pixies, released on March 21, 1988, through the British independent record label 4AD.Produced by the influential audio engineer Steve Albini, the album is widely celebrated for its raw, aggressive sound, dynamic "loud-quiet-loud" song structures, and surreal lyrics. It became a massive critical success and a foundational blueprint for 1990s alternative rock, famously cited by Kurt Cobain as a primary inspiration for Nirvana's Nevermind.
